Great News-Homelessness Among Veterans is Down in Los Angeles County

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reported recently that the number of homeless veterans in Los Angeles County is down by 22%, from 8,131 to 6,371. This continues a recent downward trend and is welcome news. A December 19, 2012 article in the Los Angeles Times quotes Bill Daniels, chief of mental health at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, as crediting better work with a variety of community organizations and a more aggressive outreach to chronically homeless veterans. Kudos to Mr. Daniels and his team along with the many community based organizations that are making a difference in helping our homeless veterans. Ending homelessness among our veterans is the right cause in our society and benefits all of our communities.
